The operator of hamuru (the “Operator”) sets out below how user information is handled in the iPhone app “hamuru” (the “App”).
1. Information the Operator receives
The Operator does not receive any personal information such as your name, email address, postal address, or phone number through the App. The App does not contain any analytics that track your behavior, or any advertising.
2. Information recorded in the App and where it is stored
The following information you record in the App is stored on your iPhone and in your own iCloud account. The Operator cannot see or receive this information.
- Meal photos
- Meal times and memos
- Calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and dish breakdowns
- Body weight
- App settings
Storage in iCloud uses a system provided by Apple. For how information is handled in iCloud, please see Apple’s Privacy Policy.
3. Information sent for AI calorie estimates
Only when you tap “Estimate Calories with AI” or a similar button, the following information is sent to Google LLC’s AI service (Gemini on Google Cloud) to estimate calories:
- The photos of that meal (reduced in size for sending)
- The memo for that meal
- The dish breakdown for that meal (when you edit the breakdown and estimate again)
The information sent is used only to estimate calories. Google states that information sent to this service is not used to train its AI. However, it may be stored temporarily on Google’s servers for processing and abuse monitoring. For details, please see Google Cloud’s privacy information.
The first time you estimate, the App shows a screen asking whether it may send this information, and sends it only if you agree. You can withdraw this consent at any time in the App under Settings > AI Calorie Estimates.
Photos and memos are never sent unless you tap the button. Please avoid using photos that show people or anything that could identify an individual, and do not write personal information in memos.
4. Preventing abuse
To verify that requests come from the genuine App, we use Apple’s App Attest and Google’s Firebase App Check. Technical information about your device and the App may be exchanged for this verification.
5. Purchasing the paid plan (hamuru Premium)
Purchases of and payments for the paid plan are handled through Apple’s App Store. The Operator does not receive your payment information, such as credit card details.
The App records on your iPhone how many AI calorie estimates you have used each month. This record is not sent to the Operator.
6. Use of iPhone features
With your permission, the App uses the following features:
- Camera: to take photos of your meals
- Photo library: to choose meal photos and, depending on your settings, to save photos you take
- Notifications: to remind you to log meals and weight (notifications are scheduled on your iPhone and are not sent anywhere)
You can change these permissions at any time in the iPhone Settings app.
7. Deleting information
You can delete information recorded in the App from within the App. Deleting the App does not delete information stored in iCloud. To delete it from iCloud, go to the iCloud management screen in the iPhone Settings app and delete the App’s data.
8. Disclosure to third parties
The Operator does not disclose user information to third parties except as required by law. In any case, the Operator does not receive the information described above.
9. Changes to this Privacy Policy
The Operator may change this Privacy Policy as necessary. Any changes will be announced on this page.
